The Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board is reporting notable improvements in student achievement, according to the Education Quality and Assessment Office results for the 2024-2025 school year.
Grade 3 math scores saw the most significant increase, rising 6.2 per cent to 62.9 per cent of students meeting or exceeding the provincial standard, surpassing the provincial year-over-year growth of 2.3 per cent. Grade 6 math scores inched up 0.4 per cent to 44.7 per cent, while Grade 9 students achieved 53.7 per cent success, up 3.8 per cent since 2021-2022.
In literacy, Grade 3 reading rose to 71.2 per cent and writing to 61.1 per cent. Grade 6 reading results reached 85.3 per cent, and writing improved to 84.5 per cent, reflecting steady progress in alignment with provincial averages. The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) showed a 78 per cent pass rate for first-time eligible students, slightly below last year’s 80.4 per cent.
“We are extremely proud of the growth our students and educators have achieved in literacy and mathematics this year,” said Stephen O’Sullivan, Director of Education. “These results reflect the hard work, dedication, and innovative teaching strategies that our staff have implemented to close learning gaps and boost student confidence. We will continue to provide opportunities for educators to grow in both instructional and assessment practices to support continued academic success.”
PVNC Catholic credits its progress to a focus on evidence-based teaching strategies and empowering teachers with the tools and knowledge to address learning gaps directly.
