Giving Tuesday is again provides the opportunity for area residents to help any one of a number of local organizations in need through their gifts of money or time, or in the case of Kawartha Food Share, through much needed food donations.
Kawartha Food Share general manager Ashlee Aitken notes the demand for food essentials is particularly high during the lead up to Christmas. She hopes Giving Tuesday provides a springboard for what will be a solid month of increased food item donations.
Aitken says Giving Tuesday provides the opportunity to give in a number of ways.
Speaking to the release of Feed Ontario’s annual Hunger Report that shows an 87 percent increase in food bank usage since 2020, Aitken admits it’s difficult to help those in need when all are under increasing strain when it comes to putting food on the table.
Beyond Giving Tuesday, the annual Loonies On The Street fundraiser returns December 12th to George and Simcoe streets in downtown Peterborough. To make a donation online, visit canadahelps.org/en/pages/3-loonies-on-the-street/.
