Peterborough police are investigating a series of vehicle thefts after four high-end trucks and SUVs were stolen and three more were targets of attempted thefts over two days this week.
The Street Crime Unit says the incidents happened in the early morning hours of Thursday, with several victims reporting activity between 4 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. Five of the targeted vehicles were Toyota Tundras from model years 2022 and 2024, while another was a 2025 Lexus. Police say the thefts occurred across several locations, mainly in the city’s west and south ends. In two cases, thieves removed the vehicles’ tracking devices, which were later found in different neighbourhoods.
A second incident took place between 2:30 a.m. and 3 a.m. on Nov. 28 when another Lexus was taken from a driveway in the west end.
Police say the pattern mirrors a series of similar thefts reported in spring 2025, with thieves focusing on Toyota trucks and larger or luxury SUVs. Officers are asking residents who own these models to be extra vigilant.
They recommend parking another vehicle in front of the target vehicle or in a garage when possible, ensuring built-in tracking systems are activated, and using a theft-deterrent device. Anyone who notices suspicious activity is asked to contact police at 705-876-1122 x225, or call 9-1-1 in an emergency or if a crime is in progress. Information can also be shared with Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
