Downtown visitors will once again get two hours of free parking in all municipal spaces starting today as the City of Peterborough brings back its annual holiday parking program.
Running until December 31, the Wolf Lawyers sponsored program covers all municipal on-street spaces, municipal lots, the King Street Parkade, and the Simcoe Parking Garage. Any parking fees voluntarily paid through meters, pay-and-display machines, or the HotSpot app during the free period will be donated to Kawartha Food Share.
“Wolfe Lawyers are happy to partner again with the City of Peterborough to offer free two-hour parking downtown during the holiday season. We encourage everyone to come and shop and dine downtown to support our local businesses,” said Bill Wolfe. “For those who pay, know that all proceeds donated will go to Kawartha Food Share who support those who need our help.”
Town Ward councillors Joy Lachica and Alex Bierk called the program “a great way to make it easier for people to visit our vibrant downtown, shop locally and enjoy all that our community has to offer during the holiday season,” adding that it “gives back, raising funds for the Kawartha Food Share and helping our community during a time of year when it’s needed the most.”
Kawartha Food Share supports more than 14,000 people each month through food banks, meal programs, housing projects, and food cupboards.
“Every year, the free two-hour holiday parking program helps bring more people into our downtown to shop, dine, and celebrate the season,” said Nour Mazloum, Executive Director of the Peterborough Downtown Business Improvement Area. “We’re grateful to the City and to Wolfe Lawyers for making it easier for residents to support local businesses at the most important time of year.”
On-street parking remains limited to a maximum of two hours to ensure turnover. Visitors who need more time are encouraged to use a municipal lot or parking garage.
