A grassroots movement that aims to defend and reclaim community, sovereignty and food justice has marked a major milestone.
Food Not Bombs Peterborough, which prepares and shares free food in local public spaces, has marked 20 years of serving anyone who is hungry on Monday evenings in Confederation Park across the street from Peterborough City Hall. Food served is sourced from farmers, gardeners, grocers, bakers and those cleaning out their pantries.
Longtime volunteer Myles Conner estimates Food Not Bombs has served in excess of 40,000 meals over more than 1,000 Monday evenings. He encourages others to volunteer with the group for selfish reasons.
Conner says the group provides more than “caloric intake.”
Conner says the group’s core aim resonates more now than it did 20 years ago.
