The Ontario Provincial Police is giving the public a new way to explore its work with the release of its 2024 Annual Report, now in a fully digital, interactive format. The report features videos, regional maps and statistics, showing how the OPP responded to calls, enforced the law, and worked to keep communities safe across Ontario last year.
In 2024, officers handled more than 2.4 million calls for service, including nearly 966,000 9-1-1 calls. Mental health-related calls came in every 17 minutes, while motor vehicle collisions occurred roughly every seven minutes. Traffic enforcement remained a priority, with about 441,000 traffic stops and over 11,500 impaired driving charges. Seatbelt-related charges rose 32 per cent.
The OPP also made major strides in criminal enforcement. Targeted teams seized more than $110 million in illegal drugs, recovered about 1,400 stolen vehicles worth over $120 million, and confiscated more than 1,450 weapons. The Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement Squad arrested more than 1,500 violent repeat offenders, a 30 per cent increase from 2023, while the Criminal Investigation Branch investigated 124 major crimes, including 30 homicides.
A new Detachment Abuse Issues Investigators program deployed 70 investigators across the province to strengthen the OPP’s response to abuse investigations. At the same time, 542 new recruits and experienced officers joined the force, helping the OPP maintain its focus on “People, Work and Communities” under the 2023-2025 Strategic Plan and the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019.
The report also commemorates 50 years of women serving in the OPP. Celebrations included events, initiatives, and a mural unveiled at the OPP General Headquarters in Orillia to honour trailblazers and inspire future generations.
