Peterborough Transit is making seasonal and service adjustments to two of its bus routes beginning next week.
As of Sunday, Route 7 Lansdowne switched to its winter route. Instead of travelling over the covered bridge at the Peterborough Lift Lock, buses will use the Maria Street bridge for the duration of the winter season. The route will run along Rogers Street and Maria Street between Hunter Street East and Ashburnham Drive until spring.
To support the change, two winter bus stops will be in service: Rogers Street at Sophia Street for southbound trips and Maria Street at Armour Road for eastbound trips.
Several stops normally served by Route 7 in spring and summer will be temporarily suspended, including Hunter Street at Times Square, Hunter Street at the Lift Lock, and stops at Ashburnham Drive at the Lift Lock and Maniece Avenue. Transit officials note that the Times Square stop will continue to be served by Route 4 Weller.
Service changes are also coming to Route 9 Parkhill. Beginning Monday, a new weekday afternoon trip will be added to accommodate high student ridership from St. Peter’s Catholic Secondary School. The trip will depart from Parkhill Road at Medical Drive at 2:30 p.m. and continue to Gzowski College at Trent University.
The city says the adjustments are intended to improve safety, efficiency and passenger service during the winter months and peak travel times. Riders are encouraged to check updated schedules and stop information before travelling.
