Lakefield Youth Unlimited (LYU) celebrated a successful 22nd Annual Fundraising Dinner on October 16 at the Lakefield Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 77. The event sold out, bringing together community members, local leaders, and supporters for an evening of music, stories, and generosity.
Through the support of attendees and donors, the dinner raised $28,000 toward LYU’s $30,000 goal. Funds will support leadership development, mental health resources, recreational programs, and operational costs for youth across Lakefield and surrounding areas.
The evening featured a solo performance by Ethan Garbutt of the Lakefield Children’s Chorus and Musical Theatre Group. Guests also heard from Selwyn Deputy Mayor Ron Black, along with staff and community members sharing the impact of LYU’s programs. Ten youth from the Student Leadership Team helped serve guests and bring a positive energy to the event.
The Peter Bishop Youth Volunteer of the Year Award recognized Aliegha Stencell and Brandon O’Boyle for their dedication to LYU programs and their leadership among peers. The award honors youth who embody the spirit of service championed by the late Reverend Peter Bishop.
Those who missed the dinner can still support LYU’s $30,000 goal by donating online at lakefieldyouthunlimited.com.
