Trent Valley Archives (TVA) is inviting the public to a special walking tour at Little Lake Cemetery on Sunday, November 9 at 3 p.m., led by historian Don Willcock. The tour honours Peterborough residents who served in conflicts around the world, from the Napoleonic Wars and the War of 1812 to both World Wars, the US Civil War, and the Boer War.
Participants will learn the stories of notable soldiers and military figures, including Capt. Andrew Simon Fraser, who enlisted at 15 and later became a Justice of the Peace; Colonel John Wesley Miller, who fought in the American Civil War under his brother’s name; Lt. Gen. John Macdonald, brother-in-law of lumber magnate Mossom Boyd; and Agnes Campbell Neill, who rose to become Colonel and Matron-in-Chief of all Canadian military nurses during World War II.
The tour also highlights the extraordinary story of Harry and Heber Rogers, sons of Lift Lock designer Richard B. Rogers, who were captured in World War I and initially reported deceased in 1915.
This is TVA’s final walking tour of the season. Tickets are $20 per person and must be booked in advance through trentvalleyarchives.com/events, by calling 705-745-4404, or emailing admin@trentvalleyarchives.com. The tour will run rain or shine, so participants are encouraged to dress appropriately.
