The Peterborough Petes will look to turn things around tonight when they host the Kingston Frontenacs in the opening game of a home-and-home series.
This will be the first of eight meetings between the Eastern Conference rivals, with Kingston dominating last year’s season series, winning seven of eight games and outscoring Peterborough 41-20.
Coming off back-to-back losses and sitting at 2-3-0-1, head coach Rob Wilson says he’s not overly concerned with how his young group has been performing so far this season.
It won’t be an easy task for the Petes, with Kingston entering play at 4-1-0-1 and sitting atop the Eastern Conference standings. Wilson says the Frontenacs’ early success comes as no surprise.
Goaltender Easton Rye has carried most of the workload in net so far, starting four of the team’s first five games, while Masen Johnston saw his first action in Brantford last Friday, in a 6-3 loss to the Bulldogs. With the team continuing to carry three goalies, Wilson says American Dylan Lee-Stack will make his OHL debut tomorrow in Kingston.
Leon Kolarik leads the Petes with four goals and seven points to open the season, while overage forward and former Frontenac Matthew Soto has six points heading into his first matchup against his old club. Kingston’s Vann Williamson leads the way for the Frontenacs with six points.
Tonight’s puck drop at the Peterborough Memorial Centre is set for 7:05 pm, with tickets available through the Grant Thornton Box Office. The series shifts to Slush Puppie Place in Kingston tomorrow night. Both game can be heard on Freq 90.5 with coverage beginning just before 7pm.
