The Peterborough + Kawarthas Chamber of Commerce is preparing to say goodbye to a key member of its leadership team.
After nearly five years of service, Joel Wiebe, Vice President of Government Relations and Operations, is leaving the Chamber to pursue a new role with Alto, the high-speed train project connecting Peterborough to Toronto, Ottawa, Montréal, Laval, Trois-Rivières and Quebec City. His final day at the Chamber will be October 3rd
During his tenure, Wiebe became known as a strong advocate for local business, representing members at the municipal, provincial and federal levels. Chamber officials say his work helped ensure the voice of business was heard on critical community issues.
“Joel’s dedication, insight, and commitment to advocacy have made a lasting impact on the Chamber and our members,” Chamber president and CEO Brenda Whitehead said in a statement. “We are sad to see him go, but thrilled he will continue to champion our region in this new role.”
For Wiebe, the opportunity to join the high-speed rail project builds on a passion he carried throughout his time at the Chamber.
“It has been a true honour to serve the local business community through the Chamber,” Wiebe said. “Working alongside such engaged members, colleagues, and partners has been deeply rewarding. While I will miss my role here, I am excited to continue advocating for our region through a project that will strengthen our community and open new opportunities.”
