Lakelands Public Health has officially launched a new name and brand, marking the merger of the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit and Peterborough Public Health. The change reflects a unified vision to advance public health across the City of Kawartha Lakes, City and County of Peterborough, Haliburton County, and Northumberland County.
“This is more than a new name and logo,” said Dr. Thomas Piggott, Medical Officer of Health and CEO of Lakelands Public Health. “It’s a commitment to building a healthier future together for generations to come. By bringing our teams, expertise, and resources under one identity, we’re better equipped to meet the evolving needs of our communities.”
The refreshed visual identity features a circular sun and moon design representing land, water, and the interconnectedness of mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. The rising sun and its reflection convey optimism, with the individual at the heart of community and care.
Residents will continue to access the full range of public health services, including immunizations, infectious disease prevention, health promotion, environmental health, and emergency preparedness. The merger will also improve coordination and strengthen partnerships across the region.
“Our communities deserve a strong, unified public health system that responds to local priorities while preparing for future challenges,” added Ron Black, Chair of the Board of Health.
“The new name and identity was created in consultation with Indigenous partners with respect to inclusivity and equality and touches on many important concepts,” said Liz Stone, Chair of the Indigenous Health Advisory Circle. “The circle represents wholeness as it relates to health, spiritual, mental, emotional and physical, or ‘Mino Bimaadiziwin – Good Life’, while the colours acknowledge the importance of Water and Earth, as well as the Sun and Moon in the centre.”
The transition to the new name and brand will be phased in over the coming months, with updates to signage, online platforms, and program materials. Residents can visit LakelandsPH.ca to explore the new look and learn more about services.
