The Canadian Mental Health Association, Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge is marking World Suicide Prevention Day and Suicide Prevention Month throughout September.
Each year, about 4,500 Canadians die by suicide — an average of 12 lives lost every day. The association says these deaths are preventable and that raising awareness is a crucial step in saving lives.
To support those in crisis, Canada’s national suicide crisis helpline, 9-8-8, provides free and confidential assistance by call or text, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
CMHA HKPR is urging people to take time this month to learn about the 9-8-8 helpline and share the number with others.
“If you or someone you know is struggling or thinking about suicide, please reach out for help,” the association said in a release. “By remembering and promoting 9-8-8, we help build stronger, more responsive communities.”
