Police are investigating a fatal stabbing that claimed the life of a 25-year-old man early Saturday morning in Peterborough.
The Peterborough Police Service says officers were called to a parking lot near Monaghan Road and Cameron Street shortly after 2 a.m. on August 3.
Investigators say the victim and a friend were walking in the area when a confrontation occurred between them and a group of five youths. During the altercation, police allege the victim was stabbed. The suspects then fled the scene.
The victim was transported to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, where he died of his injuries.
Police say one person is in custody and officers are actively searching for four other suspects, all believed to be males under the age of 18.
Roads in the area were closed for several hours as officers conducted a search, including support from the K9 unit, the service’s Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS), and an Ontario Provincial Police helicopter. Roads have since reopened.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Bell at 705-876-1122 x206.
