Peterborough residents on social assistance who struggle with respiratory conditions may be eligible for financial support to stay cool this summer.
The City of Peterborough is offering up to $300 to help cover the cost of an air conditioning unit for those receiving Ontario Works or the Ontario Disability Support Program. The one-time assistance is aimed at individuals with a diagnosed severe respiratory illness or asthma, provided they live within the City or County of Peterborough.
To qualify, applicants must submit a current prescription confirming their diagnosis and provide at least one estimate for the cost of an air conditioner.
Residents seeking more information are encouraged to contact their case worker or call the Social Services office at 705-748-8830.
