Canadian Blood Services is calling on Peterborough residents to roll up their sleeves this week, as hospitals brace for the holiday crunch.
The organization says donation numbers tend to dip around long weekends, even though the demand for blood never takes a break. That’s why the Peterborough clinic has extended its hours heading into the Canada Day holiday.
Community Development Manager Jill Gemmiti says the summer months are always a challenge.
While many people see the holiday as a day to sit back and relax, Gemmiti says the need for blood never takes a vacation.
With more people on the roads during the summer, Gemmiti adds that accidents and emergencies only heighten the need for donors.
She says the process of donating is simple and takes less than an hour.
