Ontario has launched a sweeping new strategy to power the province for decades, combining traditional sources with clean energy innovations in a bid to ensure long-term energy security and economic growth.
Dubbed the Energy for Generations plan, the roadmap integrates electricity, natural gas, hydrogen, and emerging technologies while laying out a path for modernization, infrastructure expansion, and environmental sustainability.
Energy and Mines Minister Stephen Lecce says Ontario is taking a leadership role among G7 nations when it comes to energy independence.
Electricity demand in Ontario is expected to rise by 75 percent over the next 25 years—a surge Lecce compares to adding four and a half Torontos to the power grid.
Lecce says the plan includes record investments in infrastructure, new nuclear capacity, and continued access to natural gas, adding that collaboration is key.
Other priorities in the Integrated Energy Plan include expanding distributed energy resources, advancing Indigenous equity partnerships, and making Ontario a global clean energy leader.
The province says the strategy is designed not just to meet the growing needs of the grid, but to ensure Ontario remains competitive and resilient in a rapidly changing global energy landscape.
