The Peterborough Century 21 Lakers dropped their second straight game Tuesday night, falling 9-6 to the Six Nations Chiefs at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.
The loss brings the Lakers’ record to 7-3, while the Chiefs strengthen their hold on first place with a 9-1 mark.
Peterborough jumped out to a 3-2 lead after the first period, but the Chiefs took control in the second and never looked back. Six Nations led 6-4 heading into the third, and after extending their lead to 8-4, the Lakers managed a late push with two goals but couldn’t close the gap.
Doug Jamieson backstopped the Chiefs with a stellar 42-save performance. Ryan Smith recorded a hat trick, while Ian MacKay and Shayne Jackson each scored twice.
Joe Resetarits led the Lakers with three goals and an assist, including a highlight-reel crease dive in the second period. Holden Cattoni added a pair, and Brad McCulley—back from a one-game suspension—chipped in with one. Nick Rose made 37 saves in the loss.
Each team had just two power play chances, though Six Nations converted twice on delayed penalties.
The Lakers are back at the Memorial Centre this Thursday, June 26, when they host the Cobourg Kodiaks as part of a Canada Day celebration. Fans are encouraged to wear red and white, as the team will don special edition Canada jerseys to be auctioned off after the game in support of the PRHC Foundation’s $60 million campaign.
