The Peterborough Petes have added experience to their blue line, acquiring overage defenceman James Petrovski from the Owen Sound Attack.
In return, Owen Sound receives a third-round pick in 2026, a second-round pick in 2027, a fifth-round pick in 2028, and a third-round pick in 2029.
Petrovski, a Mississauga native, was originally selected by the Flint Firebirds in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2021 OHL Priority Selection. He played parts of two seasons in Flint, registering 14 points in 73 games, before being traded to Owen Sound in November 2022.
Over the course of 180 games with the Attack, Petrovski tallied 85 points and was named an assistant captain in October 2024.
“James is a big, veteran defenceman who plays a solid two-way game,” said Petes General Manager and VP of Operations Michael Oke. “With over 250 games in the OHL and his time being an assistant captain, his leadership and experience is a great addition to our blue line as we continue to build our team for next season. This move falls in line with the plan that we’ve been putting together to reshape our roster. We’ll be making some more exciting roster announcements in the near future.”
Petrovski is coming off his most productive offensive season in 2024–25, recording four goals and 37 assists for 41 points. He also brings 30 games of playoff experience, including a run to the Western Conference Final with Flint in 2021–22.
He is the second overage player the Petes have acquired this offseason. On June 12, the team traded for forward Matthew Soto from the Kingston Frontenacs in exchange for three draft picks.
