The Peterborough Century 21 Lakers slipped to third place in the MSL standings Thursday night, falling 13-9 to the Brooklin Lacrosse Club at the Memorial Centre.
Peterborough led 3-2 after the first and stretched that to 4-2 early in the second, but Brooklin responded with six unanswered goals to take control heading into the final frame.
“It got away from us there,” said Adam Thistlethwaite. “It got a little ugly.”
The game featured 140 combined penalty minutes, including eight majors and six misconducts. Peterborough’s Thomas Hoggarth received an automatic one-game suspension after fighting Brooklin’s Darryl Robertson in the third period.
“He just got grabbed in the corner,” said Thistlethwaite. “That’s unacceptable, but he’s a big guy, he handled himself … Guy ended up on his back, head against the boards.”
Despite the deficit, Peterborough battled back with five third-period goals. The crowd erupted after Jake Withers scored off a faceoff and then set up Matt Gilray for another quick goal.
“We try to score goals for each other, for the city,” Thistlethwaite added.
The Lakers, now 7-2 halfway through their regular season, visit the first-place Six Nations Chiefs on Tuesday. They return home next Thursday to host the Cobourg Kodiaks on PRHC Night.
