Peterborough residents have several options to stay cool outdoors this summer, including splash pads, wading pools, and Beavermead Beach.
Splash pads are open daily from May to September, generally from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The splash pad at Riverview Park and Zoo operates from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Locations include Rogers Cove, Nicholls Oval Park, King Edward Park, Turner Park, Hamilton Park, Barnardo Park, Kinsmen Park, Riverview Park and Zoo, and a water feature at Quaker Foods City Square.
Beavermead Beach, at 2011 Ashburnham Drive, is a supervised public beach with lifeguards on duty daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. from June 28 to August 31. Water quality is monitored by Peterborough Public Health. The beach at Rogers Cove will not have lifeguards this year but remains maintained and tested for water quality.
Wading pools offer a safe, supervised space for young children to play and cool off. Two lifeguarded wading pools are open daily from June 28 to the end of August, 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Chelsea Gardens and John Taylor Memorial Park. Children must be supervised by an adult.
