Provincial police are searching for whoever defaced Pride‑coloured bollards outside the Apsley Library.
Peterborough County OPP say staff called officers on June 11th, after discovering that rainbow stripes painted for Pride Month had been covered with spray paint sometime overnight Tuesday.
“The Peterborough County OPP takes acts of hate or intolerance very seriously and they will not be tolerated in our community,” the detachment said in a statement. “We serve our province by protecting its citizens, upholding the law and preserving public safety.”
Library officials plan to repaint the posts this week and say officers will attend the touch‑up to “show our support and stand in solidarity against hate‑motivated actions.”
Investigators are asking anyone with information to phone the OPP at 1‑888‑310‑1122 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 1‑800‑222‑8477.
