The Peterborough Century 21 Lakers improved to 7-1 on the 2025 Major Series Lacrosse season Monday night with a 7-6 win over the Oakville Rock at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre. The victory avenged an earlier 9-7 home loss to Oakville and evened the season series at one game apiece.
Seven different Lakers players scored, beating Rock goaltender Landon Kells. Nick Rose was solid in net, turning aside 52 shots in the win.
Peterborough held a 5-3 lead in the third period before Oakville scored three straight goals to move ahead 6-5. Taite Cattoni tied it with 3:56 remaining, finding a lane through traffic. Newly acquired forward Braeden Saris netted the game-winner with 2:15 left. Saris also had two assists in the second period.
“It was really cool playing with a lot of guys I’ve watched during the winters and kinda learned from and watched how they play,” said Saris. “They made it easy and luckily I was able to get the last one and get the win. I want to get better as a player and learn from all [my teammates] and coaches and hopefully take a run at it and win a championship.”
The Lakers are back at the Memorial Centre on Thursday to host the Brooklin Lacrosse Club on Sport A Rainbow Night.
Lakers scoring:
Thomas Hoggarth (1-3), Mike Robinson (1-2), Braeden Saris (1-2), Joe Resetarits (1-0), Taite Cattoni (1-0), Austin Hasen (1-0), Brad McCulley (1-0), Adam Thistlethwaite (0-2), Nick Rose (0-2), Dylan Hutchison (0-1), Ben Trumble (0-1).
