Peterborough County has seen a surge in impaired driving arrests, with five charges laid by the Ontario Provincial Police over the past six days.
On June 11, officers responded to a call about a 54-year-old female from Havelock-Belmont-Methuen Township found unconscious inside a vehicle. EMS transported the driver to hospital, where police determined they were over three times the legal blood alcohol limit. The driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle impounded for seven days.
Earlier in the week, four other impaired driving charges were laid at various locations in Peterborough County. Those charged include a 35-year-old man from Curve Lake, a 43-year-old Peterborough woman, a 38-year-old from Norwood, and a 31-year-old Pembroke man.
Several of those faced additional charges including dangerous operation and driving while suspended. All had their licences suspended for 90 days and vehicles impounded for seven days.
The OPP reminds drivers to plan safe rides home when consuming alcohol or drugs by using designated drivers, taxis, public transit, or staying overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impair judgment and endanger lives.
Peterborough County OPP encourages the public to play an active role in keeping communities safe. If you have any information about suspected illegal activity, please contact Crime Stoppers online at stopcrimehere.ca or by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
