The City of Peterborough is welcoming evacuees from First Nations communities threatened by wildfires in Northwestern Ontario.
Emergency Management Ontario confirmed Tuesday June 10, that about 200 evacuees would arrive in Peterborough that evening, with more expected in the coming days.
Mayor Jeff Leal said there was “no hesitation” in agreeing to help, and praised local agencies for quickly mobilizing to offer support.
The Loomex Group, contracted by the province, is coordinating the evacuation. The city’s Emergency Management Division is working with Loomex and local partners to provide assistance.
