The Lakefield Literary Festival is again honouring the work of a number of student writers.
On June 10th at Crestwood Secondary School, the winners of the festival’s Young Writers Contest will be presented with $250 each and a plaque. As well, each winning entry will be published in the festival’s e-book at www.lakefieldliteraryfestival.com and be feted June 20th at the festival.
From more than 100 entries, the following were deemed winners:
• Laura Oakes, Crestwood, Junior Fiction
• Susie Wang, Lakefield College School, Junior Non-Fiction and Junior Poetry
• Sophie Wigglesworth, Wayside Academy, Senior Fiction
• Grace Gavard, Adam Scott, Senior Non-Fiction
• Alexis De Roose, Crestwood, Senior Poetry
• Ayyat Aburayyan, Alexandra Buxton, Jazzmin Campbell, Isabella Cancelliere, Alexis De Roose, Laura Oakes and Ivyquinn Yule of the Crestwood Writer’s Block, Lucille Strath Award
Lakefield Secondary School teacher Alasdair Wallace first spearheaded a festival student writing contest in 1998 and it has been a staple of the festival ever since.
