A Peterborough retiree is celebrating a lucky break after winning the top prize of $77,777 with an INSTANT 7X MULTIPLIER lottery ticket.
Lorraine Garvey, who has been playing the lottery for more than 30 years, picked up the $3 ticket on a whim. “This ticket was new to me and looked interesting, so I decided to pick one up,” she said while claiming her prize at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto.
She scratched the ticket and scanned it using the OLG app, only to be stunned by the result. “When the prize amount appeared, I was stunned and thought there had been a mistake. I double-checked my ticket, but sure enough, it was correct”.
Garvey took the winning ticket to a store to confirm it, then went home to share the news with her husband. “I showed it to him and said, ‘Look what I won!’ He was shocked and very happy for me,” she said. “Later, I called my daughters to tell them about my win, and they were overjoyed.”
“It takes a while for a win like this to sink in,” she added. “It came as such a surprise!”
Garvey plans to use the prize money to buy a new car, complete home renovations, and help her children.
She purchased the winning ticket at Steve’s Quik Chek Variety on Armour Road in Peterborough.
