Holy Cross Secondary School is bringing a compelling piece of history to the stage with its production of Radium Girls, running June 4 through 6 at 7 pm.
The student-led performance, directed by drama teacher Serena McKenna, tells the true story of young women who fell ill after working with radium-based paint in the 1920s. The play follows Grace Fryer, portrayed by Grade 12 student Holly Heuchert, as she takes on her former employer in a legal battle for justice. Jack Jopling, also in Grade 12, plays company executive Arthur Roeder.
The 12-member cast features students from Grades 9 to 12, covering 37 roles in total. It’s a debut performance for many, and marks McKenna’s 25th production at the school.
Behind the scenes, students and staff contributed to every aspect, from lighting and audio to set design and makeup.
Performances take place on the Holy Cross stage with doors opening at 6:15 pm. Tickets are available at the door.
