The CEO of Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region has received the highest honour from Habitat for Humanity Canada.
Susan Zambonin was presented with the Terry Petkau Legacy Award – Outstanding Staff during the national awards gala in Halifax on May 16, 2025. The award recognizes exceptional leadership and innovation in advancing affordable housing.
Zambonin has supported over 120 families through her work with Habitat affiliates in Prince Edward Island, Kingston, and Peterborough. At Habitat PKR, she led the organization’s largest development—a 53-unit condominium on Leahy’s Lane—and oversaw the region’s first 3D-printed home in Fraserville.
Another project breaking ground this summer is an accessible duplex in East City, in partnership with Our Daughters’ Home. It will house seven women with developmental disabilities and a live-in caregiver.
The award was accompanied by a tribute video featuring messages from volunteers, staff, and homeowners, highlighting Zambonin’s decades-long dedication to inclusive, community-based housing solutions.
