The City of Peterborough is showing the public the first phase of its long-anticipated “Little Lake Loop” with the Otonabee River Trail and Shoreline Improvement Project.
The initiative will focus on the shoreline along Crescent Street, from Haggart Street to the Point of Del Crary Park. It supports key goals outlined in both the Central Area Master Plan and the Little Lake Master Plan. The City’s Asset Management and Capital Planning Director, Ian Boland, puts it simply.
Design work has been awarded to CIMA+. The firm will lead the engineering and design efforts, currently in the early stages of conceptual planning. As of right now, developers are considering two distinct concepts, which Boland lays out.
Potential features under consideration include improved active transportation options as per the City’s Transportation Master Plan, shoreline erosion protection, enhanced aquatic habitat, and expanded access for recreational water use. Traffic calming and new public gathering spaces are also being explored. Boland points out the gathering spaces.
The City is inviting public input on current uses, existing issues, and suggestions for improvements as part of concept development.
Updates will be posted as the project moves toward detailed design. Residents can review this information and make comment on the project on Connect Peterborough
