While fans pack the Peterborough Memorial Centre Thursday night to cheer on the hometown Lakers, the real win will happen at the doors.
In support of Kawartha Food Share, the game against the Brampton Excelsiors is doubling as a community food drive. Fans are being asked to bring non-perishable food donations, all of which will go toward supporting local families in need.
Kawartha Food Share supports more than 14,000 people every month across the City and County of Peterborough through a network of 36 member agencies. This network includes meal programs, food banks in the city and county, housing projects, and over 20 food cupboards. Last year alone, their warehouse distributed over $10 million worth of food and emergency supplies to those in need.
The 2024 Lakers food drive saw fans fill up eight bins, with the team adding a $2,000 donation on top of that.
Their reach also extends into local schools, where thousands of children benefit from breakfast programs designed to start their day with nutritious meals. With demand on the rise, community support is essential to keep these programs running.
