Peterborough will come alive this weekend with the 37th Annual Laker Classic.
One of Ontario’s longest-running minor lacrosse tournaments, and the unofficial kickoff to summer for many, this storied event will see young athletes from across the province converge on local arenas.
Recognized as Ontario’s premier early season tournament, and hosted by the Peterborough Minor Lacrosse Association, the event will feature close to 40 teams across five divisions, ranging from U9 to U17. Teams from as far as Sarnia, Akwesasne, and Nepean will join local squads at venues including the Peterborough Memorial Centre, Kinsmen and Healthy Planet Arena. The tournament kicks off today at 1 p.m. and continues through Sunday with the division finals.
The tournament will provide a significant boost to the local economy, with hotels expecting an influx of visitors. Restaurants and local businesses are also gearing up for a busy weekend as families and fans fill the city.
With nearly four decades of history, the Laker Classic remains a cornerstone of Peterborough’s lacrosse legacy. Whether you’re a player, parent, or fan, this weekend promises an unforgettable showcase of Canada’s national summer sport in the heart of the Kawarthas.
