Peterborough native Porter Martone has earned a permanent spot on Team Canada’s roster for the remainder of the 2025 IIHF World Championship in Sweden.
The 18-year-old phenom, projected as a top five pick in the June 2025 NHL Draft, made his debut in Canada’s 5-3 win over Sweden, logging 11 shifts and 8:45 of ice time.
Martone, who plays for the OHL’s Brampton Steelheads, was added to the lineup after New York Islanders forward Bo Horvat suffered a tournament-ending lower-body injury.
The 6-foot-3, 208-pound forward joins a roster that includes Sidney Crosby, Nathan MacKinnon, and fellow Peterborough native Barrett Hayton.
Canada currently leads Group A with a 6-1 record. They’ll face Denmark in the quarterfinals Thursday at 2:20 p.m. ET in Stockholm.
