With a potential Canada Post strike looming, Peterborough Social Services is making alternative arrangements to ensure clients can still access important documents and payments.
If a service disruption begins, which could occur by Friday at midnight, clients who normally receive cheques or letters by mail will be able to pick them up at the Social Services office at 178 Charlotte Street. The office will be open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Anyone collecting mail in person must bring valid ID. Staff will contact clients when their cheques are ready for pickup.
Officials are also encouraging clients to consider switching to direct deposit or reloadable payment cards to avoid future delays. For those who receive paper statements, information is available on how to access files through the MyBenefits online portal.
Canada Post has received strike notice from the union representing more than 55,000 workers, raising the likelihood of a nationwide postal disruption by the end of the week.
