The City of Peterborough is beginning a two-phase watermain rehabilitation project this week to improve water quality, fire protection and flow capacity on several streets.
The work involves removing iron buildup inside aging watermains, which can affect water colour and reduce pressure. Once cleaned, a protective liner will be applied to prevent future buildup. Crews will also test and replace valves and hydrants as needed.
Phase one begins May 12th on Rink, Lake, Gilchrist and Bethune streets. Phase two is scheduled to start in June on additional roads including Parkhill Road West and Clonsilla Avenue.
Temporary watermains will be installed at the curb during the work. Affected roads, curbs, driveways and sidewalks will be restored afterward. No full road closures are planned, but lane reductions will be in effect.
