The Peterborough Century 21 Lakers are stepping up for local healthcare, partnering with the Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation in support of its record-setting $60 million Campaign for PRHC.
Billed as the largest fundraising initiative in the hospital and foundation’s history, the campaign has already brought in $52.9 million. It aims to strengthen access to world-class care in the region, attract top medical professionals, and address urgent infrastructure and equipment needs.
“The Lakers are all about community, and there’s nothing more ‘community’ than supporting our regional hospital,” said Lakers board member Len Powers. “PRHC is the heartbeat of the Peterborough region.”
As campaign ambassadors, the Lakers will support fundraising efforts throughout the 2025 Major Series Lacrosse season. The PRHC Foundation will have a visible presence at home games, and fans can purchase limited-edition Lakers merchandise, with proceeds going to the campaign. Full details are expected later.
PRHC Foundation President and CEO Lesley Heighway says this is really the push the foundation is looking for.
A special PRHC Family Night is planned for Thursday, June 26th, when the Lakers host the Cobourg Kodiaks. In celebration of Canada Day, the team will wear Canadian-themed jerseys, to be auctioned off post-game in support of the hospital. PRHC staff and volunteers will also receive a promo code for discounted tickets.
Heighway adds money raised from the campaign will help out several areas including digital pathology.
