Football continues to thrive in Peterborough, with the sport set to expand this fall as players will have two local options: the long-standing Kinsmen Minor Football League or a new U14 rep team from the Peterborough Wolverines.
The Wolverines have announced they will field a U14 team in the Ontario Fall Football League for the 2025 season, a move prompted by surging participation numbers and growing success across local football programs.
“We never wanted a rep team to compete with the KMFL,” said Bryan Junkin, former KMFL president and now OFFL director with the Wolverines. “But things have changed. The foundation is rock-solid, and we’re still turning kids away. The time is right.”
Junkin credited strong volunteer support and community interest for the KMFL’s record-breaking growth, while noting the Wolverines’ recent momentum — including the U10 team chasing a third straight provincial title — as a sign the city is ready for another competitive step.
Registration for the new U14 rep team opens Monday, May 12th, at www.peterboroughwolverines.ca. Open to players born in 2012 or 2013, the $695 fee includes gear, meals, and coach bus travel for away games. Tryouts are tentatively set for Sunday, July 6th.
The Wolverines are also recruiting coaches and support staff for the upcoming season.
