The Peterborough Petes added two young forwards during the 2025 OHL U18 Priority Selection.
With the first overall pick on Wednesday, the Petes selected Sebastian Dzieciol from the Ottawa Myers Automotive U18 program. The 6-foot, 182-pound centre led Myers in scoring during both the regular season and playoffs, helping the team capture the HEO U18 Championship.
“Sebastian is a big, strong forward who isn’t afraid to play physical and battle for the puck,” said Petes general manager Michael Oke.
Dzieciol posted 28 points in 28 regular-season games, followed by nine points in 13 playoff contests. He also appeared in five games at the U18 AAA Ontario Championships.
“I am very honoured and excited to be selected by the Petes,” said Dzieciol.
In the second round, Peterborough used the 21st overall pick to take Jayden Mercier of the Upper Canada Cyclones U18’s. The Rockland native recorded 23 points in 30 games and added 10 points in the playoffs.
“Jayden is a strong forward who uses his size well,” said Oke. “He’s a good skater who plays hard and isn’t afraid to go into the corners.”
Mercier called the selection “a dream come true.”
