With power outages lingering in some areas and cleanup efforts still underway, many residents in Peterborough City and County are relying on warming centres for relief in the aftermath of last weekend’s ice storm.
These centres provide a place to get warm, charge devices, and, in some locations, access food, showers, and Wi-Fi. Several facilities remain open through the weekend, ensuring those still affected by the storm have support as recovery continues.
Peterborough City
- McDonnel Street Community Centre (577 McDonnel St.) – Open 24 hours a day starting at 9 a.m. Friday through at least 9 a.m. Monday, April 7. Food support is available.
- Miskin Law Community Complex (271 Lansdowne St. W.) – Open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. through at least noon Monday, April 7.
- Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre (775 Brealey Dr.) – Open Friday from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., and through at least 9 a.m. Monday, April 7.
Townships
- Asphodel-Norwood: Asphodel-Norwood Community Centre (88 Alma St., Norwood) open until 9 p.m. with warming space, charging stations, showers, snacks, and water refills. The canteen offers additional food at regular prices.
- Douro-Dummer: Douro-Dummer Town Hall (894 South St., Warsaw) open Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for warming, charging, and Wi-Fi.
- North Kawartha:
- North Kawartha Community Centre (340 McFadden Rd., Apsley) open daily until 9 p.m. with clean water but no internet.
- Apsley Public Library (175 Burleigh St.) open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with free coffee, books, puzzles, and DVDs.
- Woodview Public Library (66 Northey’s Bay Rd.) open with books, puzzles, and DVDs.
- Selwyn: Bridgenorth Community Hall (836 Charles St.) open Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for warming and device charging (50-person capacity, 1-hour limit on charging stations).
- Cavan Monaghan:
- Cavan Monaghan Community Centre (986 County Rd. 10, Millbrook) open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. for warming, showers, and device charging.
- Municipal Office open until 4 p.m. for internet and charging.
- Otonabee-South Monaghan: Fire Station #1 Training Room (21 Third St., Keene) open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for warming, charging, and Wi-Fi. No food, refreshments, or water available.
- Trent Lakes: Cavendish Community Centre (32 Community Complex Dr.) open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for warming and charging.
- Havelock-Belmont-Methuen:
- Havelock Library (13 Quebec St.) open Friday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Cordova Mines Library (55 Alfred St. E.) open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Havelock Seniors Club (10 George St. W.) open Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Havelock Legion (8 Ottawa St. W.) open Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- HBM Community Centre (39 George St. E.) open Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
As cleanup efforts continue, residents are encouraged to use these resources as needed. Updates will be provided if additional services become available.
