A 23-year-old driver is facing a stunt driving charge after being stopped for excessive speeding in Peterborough.
At approximately 7:30 a.m. on March 25th, an officer from the Traffic Unit was on general patrol near Lily Lake Road and Ackison Road when they observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was clocked at 99 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.
As a result, the driver was charged with stunt driving for exceeding the speed limit by more than 40 km/h. The individual received an automatic 30-day licence suspension, and their vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
Under Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act, stunt driving carries significant penalties, including heavy fines, increased insurance rates, and possible further suspension upon conviction.
Authorities continue to remind motorists to obey speed limits and drive safely to prevent accidents and ensure public safety.
