Peterborough police are asking the public’s help after a fraud incident at a grocery store parking lot on Tuesday.
At around 7:30pm, a 53-year-old woman was approached by a young female outside a red sedan, which had a taxi sign on top. The woman claimed her taxi wouldn’t accept cash and that she didn’t have a debit card. She asked the victim to use her debit card to pay the taxi fare, offering cash in exchange. After the transaction, the victim realized the bank card returned to her wasn’t hers. Shortly after, the victim was notified of a $1,500 withdrawal, followed by another charge at a local business.
The suspects are described as a young female, around 16-20 years old with long dark hair tied up, wearing a light hoodie, and a male, approximately 40, with facial hair, balding, medium build, eyeglasses, and wearing a blue, white, and red Adidas tracksuit.
The vehicle is a red sedan with tinted windows and a white “City Taxi” sign displaying the number 740-2222.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Peterborough Police at 705-876-1122 x555 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
