A 14-year-old boy is facing multiple charges after an alleged disturbance involving a weapon at Lansdowne Place mall Wednesday evening.
Peterborough police say officers responded to reports of a large group of teens causing a disturbance at the mall around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. According to investigators, the group began to flee when security arrived. During the incident, security guards were verbally threatened before a suspect allegedly brandished a hatchet.
Officers later located a male matching the suspect’s description in a parking lot across the street and took him into custody.
As a result of the investigation, a 14-year-old Peterborough boy has been charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and failure to comply with an undertaking.
Police say the accused was already under conditions prohibiting him from possessing weapons.
The teen was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on April 14.
Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the accused’s name cannot be released.
