Peterborough Regional Health Centre has introduced a custom-built data analytics platform designed to enhance patient care and streamline hospital operations through real-time data insights.
The new platform, Peregrine, is built on Microsoft Fabric and enables secure, governed data collection, transformation, and analysis. By providing instant access to curated data, the system supports hospital decision-making and quality improvement initiatives.
“PRHC is thrilled to lead the charge among Canadian hospitals with the launch of this platform,” said Dr. Lynn Mikula, President & CEO of PRHC. “Having real-time, curated data at our fingertips through a custom-built platform is a vitally important tool when it comes to the life-saving work we do here every day.”
The development of Peregrine was supported by Hitachi Canada, ensuring compliance with security and Personal Health Information standards. PRHC sees the platform as a key component of its 2024-2029 Strategic Plan, which prioritizes advancements in data, analytics, and technology.
As part of this vision, PRHC plans to establish a Command Centre—a centralized hub where clinicians and decision-makers can collaborate using insights from Peregrine to optimize patient care and hospital efficiency.
Microsoft Canada hailed the initiative as a breakthrough in healthcare data integration. “By designing Peregrine using Microsoft Fabric, PRHC is setting a new standard for healthcare delivery in the region,” said Cate Takemori, Public Sector Lead at Microsoft Canada.
PRHC is also exploring ways to expand Peregrine’s use beyond its walls. The hospital is working with healthcare and service partners to enhance data interoperability across the region and is supporting other hospitals in developing similar platforms.
