Peterborough Action for Tiny Homes (PATH) and One City Peterborough have completed their first tiny home project, with the 400-square-foot unit set to be available for tenancy tomorrow.
The initiative, launched in September 2024, was made possible through charitable donations and material contributions from Kingdon Timber Mart and Gus’s Kitchen and Bath. PATH oversaw the design and contract management, coordinating 1,500 volunteer hours to complete the fully equipped, accessible home on time and within budget.
This marks One City’s first single-occupancy supportive housing unit, expanding on its existing congregate housing model, which currently supports 34 residents. The project aims to provide stable housing for individuals transitioning from homelessness.
Plans are in place for additional units to be built in the coming year, with an estimated cost of $100,000 or less per unit. PATH will continue collaborating with community partners and city officials to facilitate future projects.
As they prepare to welcome the new resident, One City has released a wish list of household items needed for the home, including a queen mattress and bed frame, nightstand, lamp, hand mixer, drinking glasses (no mugs), food processor, coffee table, TV, and pots and pans. Those interested in donating can contact Elisa at ehollingsworth@onecityptbo.ca.
