Tackling healthcare, education, and farmland protection are just a few of the issues that need to be addressed according to Liberal candidate Dorothy Noronha.
Dorothy Noronha is running for MPP in Northumberland-Peterborough South, driven by concerns over the erosion of public institutions. Noronha, a teacher at Cobourg Collegiate Institute, says her background in finance, healthcare, and education equips her to address issues impacting the community.
With the 2025 provincial election fast approaching, MBC is catching up with area candidates. We’ve asked your candidates to tell us who they are, what inspired them to put their names forward and to weigh in on the most pressing priorities locally, as well as the early election. All candidates were asked the same questions.
This feature is dedicated to Noronha, who has lived in Northumberland with her family for over 20 years. She teaches business and leadership at Cobourg Collegiate Institute and coaches the senior boys’ basketball team. She says her greatest joy is welcoming CCI graduates to share their business successes with her students.
Before teaching, Noronha worked as an employee benefits and pension specialist, a wealth and estate planning counsellor, and in healthcare marketing. She also ran several small businesses over three decades, gaining the business skills she now shares with her students.
MBC asked Noronha what inspired her to put her name forward.
We asked Noronha what she sees as the top three issues in our riding.
Noronha says she plans to focus her campaign on affordability, healthcare and securing access to family physicians, restoring school supports, and protecting local farmland.
Meanwhile, when asked about first priorities if elected, Noronha talked about the unique issues facing Northumberland.
When asked to weigh in on Premier Doug Ford’s early election call, Noronha had this to say.
Noronha says she is excited and determined to fight for all of Northumberland-Peterborough South.
