Peterborough City Council is moving ahead with the legal transfer of the Peterborough Utilities Commission (PUC) water system and Riverview Park & Zoo to the city.
Last night, Council endorsed the necessary approvals to complete the transition, following its June decision to take ownership of the assets. The move involves dissolving the PUC, approving an asset transfer bylaw, and formalizing operational and financial plans for the municipal water system.
The city, which already owns Peterborough Utilities’ parent company, says the transition will improve efficiency, infrastructure investment, and long-term sustainability. Officials say there will be no disruption to water quality or zoo operations as the shift is finalized.
