Correctional staff at Warkworth Institution intercepted packages containing contraband and unauthorized items valued at more than $230,000 between Jan. 25th and Feb. 5th.
According to the Correctional Service of Canada, the seized items included marijuana, tobacco, shatter—a potent cannabis concentrate—and cellphone accessories. The vigilance of staff members led to the seizures at the medium-security federal facility.
CSC employs various security measures to prevent contraband from entering institutions, including ion scanners and drug-detection dogs. The agency also works closely with law enforcement to take action against individuals attempting to smuggle prohibited items.
To further enhance security, CSC operates a confidential tip line for reporting activities related to drug use or trafficking in federal institutions. The toll-free number, 1-866-780-3784, allows individuals to provide information anonymously.
Ensuring a safe and secure environment remains a priority for CSC, which continues to strengthen efforts to combat contraband in correctional facilities.
