A significant winter storm is expected to impact parts of southern and northeastern Ontario from Wednesday evening into Thursday, bringing heavy snowfall and hazardous conditions.
Environment Canada warns that total snowfall amounts could reach 20 to 40 cm, with peak snowfall rates potentially exceeding 5 cm per hour. Northeasterly winds gusting to 50 km/h may create areas of blowing snow, reducing visibility and making travel dangerous.
The storm is expected to begin Wednesday evening and diminish by Thursday afternoon. Forecasters note that the exact track of the low-pressure system remains uncertain, which could affect snowfall amounts in different areas.
Authorities advise avoiding travel if possible. If travel is necessary, inform others of your plans and carry an emergency kit. Public Safety Canada recommends preparing with essentials such as drinking water, food, medication, a first-aid kit, and a flashlight.
