Access to mental health support in Peterborough and Lindsay is now a whole lot easier thanks to a new initiative launched earlier this week.
The local Canadian Mental Health Association has opened a mental health walk-in clinic at its Peterborough office at 466 George Street North and another in Lindsay at 33 Lindsay Street South.
Serving individuals 16 and older who are not already connected with CMHA, both clinics are open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and 12:45 to 3 p.m. An appointment isn’t needed.
Tracy Graham, CMHA director of programs and services, says the initiative is rooted in creating a real-time connection for those in need of support.
Graham says improving access to mental health care services is the end goal.
Graham outlines what those accessing the new service can expect.
The clinics are not intended for crisis situations or acute care. Those in crisis should contact the 9-8-8 National Suicide Crisis Line while those needing emergency care should go to the hospital.
