The Peterborough Downtown Business Improvement Area has unveiled details for its 2025 Community Event Support Grant, aimed at energizing the downtown core by financially and logistically supporting community-focused events.
This initiative underscores the DBIA’s commitment to fostering a lively, inclusive, and economically thriving downtown by encouraging businesses, grassroots groups, and organizations to choose Peterborough’s urban centre as their event hub.
“Our goal is to provide support for event organizers who work to create memorable experiences in our downtown that not only bring economic benefits by increasing foot traffic to the businesses, but also strengthen our overall sense of community and connection,” said Nour Mazloum, Executive Director of the Peterborough DBIA.
Priorities for Event Support
The grant will be awarded to events that align with the DBIA’s strategic priorities, including:
- Reaching priority and diverse audiences.
- Engaging DBIA member businesses, including shops, restaurants, and services.
- Driving economic prosperity within the BIA district.
- Promoting tourism, downtown exploration, and increased foot traffic.
- Strengthening community connections in the downtown area.
- Celebrating the unique cultures and identities of downtown Peterborough.
Selected events will receive financial support to offset costs such as advertising, administrative fees, permits, rental fees, and supplies. The DBIA will also offer in-kind support to enhance event execution, such as logistical coordination and access to resources.
Strengthening the Downtown Core
Mazloum emphasized the DBIA’s vision for downtown Peterborough as a cultural events hub:
“We look forward to collaborating with and supporting the visionaries and event planners who also work to create spaces where people feel connected. Together, we can showcase how special and important downtown Peterborough is for the social fabric and health of our community, and also for visitors who will want to choose this region as their destination of choice for enjoying a diverse set of unique and seasonal experiences.”
Application Process
Event organizers are encouraged to apply, ensuring their plans meet the DBIA’s funding priorities. Grants will be awarded based on the availability of funds and alignment with criteria. Successful applicants will receive funds within two weeks of their event date, and those requiring in-kind support must coordinate with the DBIA at least two weeks prior to their event.
By supporting diverse and community-driven events, the Peterborough DBIA aims to create year-round animation, increased foot traffic, and a stronger connection to the downtown area. Organizers are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to help shape the future of Peterborough’s urban centre.
